With Tesco being the only big supermarket in my local town, I’ve always grown up with my family doing their weekly shops at Tesco, and now I’m even doing my own there. Since living by myself I’ve been really conscious of how much I spend on my weekly grocery shops. Being only one person, I’ve found that it’s easy to overspend and overbuy on food without realising
I normally do my weekly Tesco shop online as it saves me so much time and gets delivered straight to my door. I also started doing this to save money, as we all know how difficult it can be going into a supermarket and not putting all the naughty treats into your trolley. When Tesco invited me to try out the scan as you shop system in-store, I was extremely interested to know how much money I could save and if this system does really save you time?
It’s a really simple process, as soon as you enter the shop the scanners are located at the front. You simply scan your Clubcard and a scanner will flash in the holders. Once you have your scanner, you can start your shopping! It was difficult to remember to scan everything I was putting into my trolley, but don’t worry if you forget anything you have a chance at the end to make sure you’ve scanned everything correctly. It was great to see everything I was scanning appear on the screen so I could keep an eye on how much I was spending and it even tells you how much you’ve saved using promotions. I found this was a great way to keep my costs down as it’s so easy to overspend when your blindly putting items in your trolley. I found using the scan as you shop scanner made me more conscious of what I was buying and I didn’t put as many treats in the trolley this time!
I also took my own bags with me which made my shopping trip run smoothly as my items were packed straight away and I didn’t have the hassle of doing this at the till when paying. Meaning my shop took less time to complete AND I saved myself money! The checkout process was again really simple, you scan a barcode at the top of the till and it then adds everything you’ve scanned onto the till. You can then continue to pay how you would normally on a self-checkout and just like that, I was done! I’m really glad I tried Tesco’s scan as you shop again because it reminded me how much I can save and discover new food at the same time. I always struggle for inspiration online because you can’t see psychically see the food, so by being in the store I actually bought more variety and found some great new products to try out without having to spend more money.
