3 GREAT WAYS TO FEEL MORE GRATEFUL AFTER ADVERSITY

3 GREAT WAYS TO FEEL MORE GRATEFUL AFTER ADVERSITY - Emma Mumford

One of the foundational pillars to the Law of Attraction is gratitude. If you can’t be grateful for what you have how can you expect to attract more into your life? With that, there is a big pressure to feel and experience gratitude in all stages of our life even when we’ve gone through something that has tested and shaped us. So this week I wanted to write a blog post for you on 3 great ways to feel more grateful after adversity.

Keep It Simple

When challenging times arise it can shake our foundations and our mindset from the positive grateful state we work so hard to maintain into a fearful and lack state. When things have gone ‘wrong’ or we feel tested it can be hard to just think positively and find things to be grateful for. So my first tip is don’t bypass this – fake positivity didn’t ever help anyone and it’s certainly not going to help shift you. Allow yourself to feel the full spectrum of your emotions and allow yourself a day off to process and feel everything you need to. Doing this will allow you to shift quicker and feel more grounded even if nothing has changed as of yet. Remember that things going wrong or rejection is divine intervention and although the reason may not be clear right now, think about what is going right for you and hold those in your vision even if if it’s only a small ounce of gratitude – you have to start somewhere. Focus on the small things day to day like a hassle-free commute to work or the fact you got yourself organised and on time today. The very fact you woke up this morning is an incredible blessing and miracle but keep it simple. If you feel called to write or think about a few points of gratitude then absolutely do it – but go with the flow. The more you can honour the REAL feelings of gratitude you have here and now, you’ll soon notice how these grow into bigger feelings and expressions of appreciation for life.

Count The Blessings

As I mentioned above you could write a list of gratitude each morning or even think about what you’re grateful for and why – this is one of my favorite practices to do each morning. Sometimes though when adversity strikes it’s just not that simple and very often you can feel like doing nothing. So I want to challenge you to look at the adversity or difficult experience you’ve been through and look at what it’s taught you so far – what has it reflected back to you? Depending on how recent it is you may or may not be able to have a clear answer on this yet. But I want you to look at what it has taught you so far. So for example, if you keep getting rejected for jobs the blessing could be here that it’s giving you lots of great interview practice, extra time with your loved ones and it’s helping you realise what kind of jobs you do and don’t want. If lockdown is still stopping you from starting that business or seeing your loved ones – what has it shown you or highlighted for you? I would sit in reflection with this and journal down any thoughts or emotions that come up with these questions. Although it’s not a list of gratitude this is a great way to appreciate the lessons or blessings the adversity is highlighting for you. It can take time though so this may be an ongoing practice for you, so allow yourself to feel what you need to moment to moment.

Moving Forwards

We can all admit looking back in our life as hard or as crazy as things panned out we have been able to move past them and find gratitude again. So right now look at yourself in the eye of the storm but the storm will eventually pass and you’ll be able to see the flowers and sun again. Take your time to feel into what feels good and look for reasons to smile in the small everyday things it doesn’t always have to be big grand things that allow us to feel gratitude and appreciation. Write yourself an appreciation list and celebrate all that you’ve overcome and achieved because I guarantee it will be a lot and big reasons to feel super proud of yourself. You’re amazing and you’ve survived 100% of your worst days so far, so believe in yourself Queen you’ve got this!
