5 WAYS TO STAY POSITIVE AND HELP OTHERS RIGHT NOW

5 WAYS TO STAY POSITIVE AND HELP OTHERS RIGHT NOW - Emma Mumford

One of the most common questions I’ve had throughout the lockdown from you guys is how to stay positive during these times and how can we help others safely. These are two very great questions that I felt tied in nicely together. So this week I wanted to share with you 5 ways to stay positive and help others right now.

Positive Post

I’m really proud to be a part of a great intuitive that launched this week via Bookblock called #positivepost where you can send your loved ones a FREE postcard whilst raising funds to create care packages for our NHS. I knew straight away that I wanted to share this with you guys as it’s such a great idea to support our loved ones and our NHS right now, and bring smiles to many faces with a positive postcard. Bookblock also asked me if I’d like to help design a postcard as one of the sixty available to choose from. So if you’d love to send a free postcard and donate to our NHS this is a great way to help others and share some positivity during these uncertain times. Everyone loves receiving happy mail through the post and equally, these donations will help create care packages for our incredible NHS. You can visit the positive post campaign here and choose your postcard.

Stay Grateful

Next a tip for yourself and certainly something you can share with your loved ones too. A great way to stay positive is to think of all the blessings in your life right now. You may already be familiar with a gratitude practice but be honest have you stuck to it during the lockdown? It can be easy to fall out of a routine and I know many have said they’re struggling to stick to daily practices currently. All I would suggest is as soon as you wake up, think or write down 3-5 reasons why you’re grateful today. This practice shouldn’t take long and I would structure your sentences in this way ‘I am so grateful for…because…’ It may seem like a simple tip to get grateful, but it’s so easy for us to forget about what’s going well in our lives or even for the roof over our head, the food in our cupboards or our good health. Being in lockdown in the safety of your home is a blessing, it means that you have a house, food and that you’re safe and well. Many across the globe won’t have this same experience so Queen express your gratitude – what have you been able to do during this time which you wouldn’t be able to normally? Counting your blessings will raise your mood each morning and help you to stay present also.

Allow Yourself To Feel

This tip is super important because we all need to be reminded that what we’re going through is the first time we’ve experienced this in our lifetime. Things are uncertain, and we’re all trying to navigate this in the best way possible which means being kind to yourself and others right now. Don’t beat yourself up if you don’t feel like being really productive and creative during this time. A lot of people’s inner work has been coming up too and this again is something you will need to feel into, it doesn’t mean that you haven’t healed it. It’s simply coming up to be released and healed for good. So right now intuitively listen to what it is you need to be doing as this will help the feelings pass through you quicker. If you’re feeling heavy, get up and move your body or go for a walk. Moving energy through movement is so important and we also know the benefits of exercise too and how that can lift your mood. So if you’re having a down day that’s okay Queen, tomorrow is a new day and you’re doing the best you can. Focus on your gratitude, do something kind for yourself and others today and move your body.

“Being in lockdown in the safety of your home is a blessing, it means that you have a house, food and that you’re safe and well. Many across the globe won’t have this same experience so Queen express your gratitude”

Keep Up Your Self-Love

Self-Love is still important during these times as we’re forced to spend more time with ourselves and get comfortable with it! One question I love to ask my clients is – do you spend quality time with yourself? A lot of the time if you live by yourself or you’re single you think you spend time by yourself but you’re not really spending quality time with yourself. Whether you’re single, married, living with friends or family whatever your situation is self-love still matters and that means spending quality time with yourself, not just with Netflix. Now I’m all here for Netflix and sometimes that really can be part of your self-care routine, but make sure during these times, that each week you’re filling your own cup and taking time out to pamper yourself. You may even be taking time out already and running yourself a nice salt bath or reading a good book. The key here is to know that you’re consciously doing it for self-love and turn it into a ritual. So instead of just running yourself a bath, light some candles, put a bath bomb in, put some incense on, maybe even put your favourite music on. The more you consciously do these acts of self-love they will fill your cup, raise your vibes and help you to feel supported and held right now.

Connect Don’t Disconnect

The main point to remember here is not to disconnect from connecting with the outside world and yourself too. It can be easy to hide away now that going outside is limited or not an option. Also not being able to see our friends and loved ones and give them a hug can be incredibly hard and you may even feel lonely during the lockdown. This is why connection in other ways is still important, not just for yourself but to help others also. Call your friends up, check-in on your family members and help them if you can. If you have vulnerable or elderly neighbours give them a call or have a chat with them over your garden fence. Everyone needs to feel connection right now including ourselves so don’t just sit on your phone all day. How can you connect to yourself more during this time? How can you connect to the outside world safely? Share your beautiful energy and smile with your loved ones and neighbours because the more we can create connection the more positive we will feel in ourselves and as a collective.
