HOW TO FIND BALANCE DURING THE FESTIVE SEASON

HOW TO FIND BALANCE DURING THE FESTIVE SEASON - Emma Mumford

We all know how hectic the Christmas season can be let alone during a pandemic when demand through work, our businesses, and in life is at an all-time high. I myself have felt the pressure over the last few weeks which called for drastic balance in order to enjoy the festive season and to wind down as we prepare for a new year! So this week I wanted to share with you my top tips and tools on how you too can find balance over the next few weeks.

Prioritise Yourself

You can’t be of use to anyone if you’re not filling your own cup first and foremost. When we feel burnt out and unable to keep up it’s because we’re taking on too much and not doing enough to prioritise our own needs and mindfulness. So first of all put yourself first, what do you need to do to keep afloat and to feel good? For me, it was scheduling out more time this month to rest and focus on the areas of my life which need my attention. Which is hard to do when December is your busiest work month! But something had to budge and I’m glad I made the decision to take on extra help and prioritise more downtime to be able to find the balance I needed. It all starts with creating the space – so this week where can you create the space in your life and what is a priority to you right now?

Have A To-Do List

I know it may seem simple and rather basic this tip but when our minds are overwhelmed with a million things to remember and do whether it’s at work or preparing for Christmas it’s only stressing you out further and puts pressure on yourself to remember all of these things. So create yourself a to-do list each day, what is a priority and needs to be addressed today? What can be done later on in the week? It may even be worth scheduling out time in your day to complete these tasks so day by day you’re taking action and working through your list. Don’t be afraid to move things to the next day or next week either, you can only do so much in one day and I often have to do this for my wellbeing so don’t be afraid, if something can be done later to move it if it’s not feeling good there and then.

Have Fun

Most importantly when we feel we need balance in our life it’s about having fun! Joy and fun are the ultimate creators remember. So for me, it was about taking a step back from the busy chaos of work to have fun and enjoy December and the run-up to Christmas. Life isn’t enjoyable when you’re not having fun and Christmas can be one of the most fun times of the year. Although it’s been a heavy year with so much happening for every single person I feel especially for myself Christmas is a welcome relief after an overwhelming year where we can come together with our loved ones and feel connection again. So find lightness in the next few weeks and allow yourself to laugh and be present too as this will help to lift the heaviness we’ve been feeling from eclipse season recently.

“Don’t default back to autopilot and coast the next few weeks as that’s not creating the space for any new abundance or energy to enter into your life. Stay present, intentional and set the intention for balance to enter into your life.”

Self-Care & Self-Love

Also over the festive period make sure to prioritise your self-care and self-love practices although Christmas may be different this year as we’re not able to see all of our loved ones it still can feel overwhelming after a hectic and chaotic year. Normally we use December to slow down and catch up but for many of us it’s all systems go still. So put you and your happiness first Queen and make sure you’re taking the time you need over the next few weeks. Whether that’s getting cozy on the sofa with some Christmas movies and snacks or taking a hot bubble bath to warm you up this December. It’s still important you take the time each week to look after yourself and needs.

Intention

Finally, remember balance is all about intention, being present, and honouring yourself so if you take anything from this blog post this week take ‘do what feels good’ as when we listen to our bodies, our intuition, and our needs we feel better and do better too. Meaning we’re naturally more productive and feel happier when we focus on the present and bring intention to that moment. Don’t default back to autopilot and coast the next few weeks as that’s not creating the space for any new abundance or energy to enter into your life. Stay present, intentional and set the intention for balance to enter into your life.
