It’s no lie that Mercury Retrograde is always famous for bringing up emotions we may have suppressed down, memories, situations, or even karma. Mercury does this by slowing us down and quite literally stopping us in our tracks sometimes to help us shine the light on what we need to address and release within us. So this week I wanted to create a blog post with you on the quickest way to find relief with intense energy or emotions.
When negative/intense emotions or thoughts come up it can be hard to just ‘forget’ about it and focus on something else. That’s also terrible Law of Attraction advice so please do not follow the old teachings many books say about ‘just focus on something positive’ this is part of toxic positivity and as I’m sure you’re aware by now doesn’t work. It’s just not that simple. By ignoring an urge, a thought, or an emotion all we are doing is burying it beneath the surface it’s not releasing or being witnessed – you’re just distracted which means when you slow down again it will surface again. Witnessing your emotions and thoughts is healthy and can be the quickest way to shift yourself also. The key here is to look beyond the thought or emotion, as you know you have thousands of thoughts a day and not all of them have a hold over you. When a particular feeling or emotion is lingering and feeling intense to you – yes, you can do something physical to shift it like dancing, grounding in nature, or even do some breathwork. But first of all and the real long-lasting secret here is to go into the thought or emotion quite literally go into it and face it head-on.
I’ve heard a few people mention this form of therapy to me before and have seen great results with bigger habits such as smoking or shopping addictions. The real success these people have seen is not by quitting and going cold turkey (although that did actually stop me smoking eventually) is to face whatever it is head-on and see what is below the surface. This is not me saying it’s okay to indulge in habits that could cause you harm in any way, please do seek support for anything that could harm you this is purely relating to negative thoughts and intense emotions. It’s like with an itch if you stop yourself from scratching the itch it gets worse and it’s all you can think about until you relieve yourself and scratch the itch. So think about it in that perspective you’d scratch an itch and then it dissipates so why suppress and try to control any thoughts or emotions. It’s like a pressure cooker all it’s doing is bubbling underneath the surface until one day…boom it’s really intense and you can’t get it off your mind now! Witness this and say ‘Okay if I was to fully allow myself to go into this thought or emotion and experience it – what is beneath it?’ I did this myself recently as I was trying to let go and focus my energy elsewhere yet pesky thoughts and intensity were arising thanks to Mercury Retrograde. So after a good reminder from my friend Hannah I allowed myself to fully feel and go into the emotions and intensity I was feeling. What came from that was helpful and as soon as I had explored them enough I felt less anxious and found relief.

Now with this, I will say you may have it come up a few times after doing this exercise as the thought/emotion is finally being witnessed and seen. Don’t be alarmed by this it’s just its way of loosening the grip and losing its power over you. When we fight and resist something for so long it gains power, energy, and momentum even though that’s the very thing we don’t want to give it! So by allowing ourselves to face it head-on, see it, and witness it instantly the power decreases and it no longer becomes a taunt from the ego/inner critic. So absolutely do this step first and of course journal down what answers, feelings or emotions come up as you dive into this exploration. Then you’ll get the real next step to what may be coming up instead of bottling up intense emotions and thoughts that can be easily released if we allow them to flow.
When you can simply witness your thoughts and allow, you will notice your come back rate to neutrality and peace is so much quicker. Then of course you can do some more physical activities to allow them to pass through you too as I mentioned above. The important thing to remember here is that no, not ALL of your thoughts or emotions will manifest. It’s okay to feel, witness, and allow the duality of our human mind and soul. What does manifest is if you stay in that vibration so if you suppress these down it does become part of your vibration as you’re still even unconsciously giving them power. So the key here is to allow, process, and witness instead of reacting, resisting, or avoiding. Try this out and see how you get on but for me, this has been such an important part of my journey and witnessing that we will have thoughts – we’re human. But these thoughts don’t have to feel intense, take over or haunt us. Give yourself love and compassion and see what is beneath the intensity.
